THE THEORY SESSIONS

During the course period theory sessions take place with a different set of principles of Advanced Driving taken from the IAM book, 'Advanced Driving the Essential Guide'

In each theory session these sets of principles, as summarised on the next pages, are explained and discussed, and on the following Sunday observed drive they are then put into practice. As the principles are explained in the theory session discussion is encouraged, so if you have any queries air them in the theory sessions, we welcome discussion as a valuable aid to understanding.

At session three we hope to  have the company of one or more of the Police test examiners, (subject to their work commitments) who are all Police Class 1  drivers.

Their vast experience and knowledge on any aspect of driving is invaluable, so if you have any questions on what is expected for the test or driving in general, this will be an ideal opportunity to ask them.

Under each principle listed on the next pages there is a brief overview on some of the points of each principle.

The full meaning and understanding of each principle can only be gained from; reading the manual, attending all the theory sessions and observed drives, then putting the theory to practical use in the observed drives, and finally by practice!

A full understanding of the Highway Code is essential.
